PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) atau KAI mencatatkan jumlah penumpang kereta api jarak jauh dan lokal tembus 51.839.503 selama 2024. Angka ini naik 6,9% dibanding tahun 2023, di mana jumlah penumpang hanya mencapai 48.507.938.
KAI mencatat ada 10 kereta dengan jumlah penumpang cukup tinggi selama 2024. Adapun peringkat pertama yaitu KA 167 Joglosemarkerto yang melayani 413.320 penumpang dari Solobalapan-Tegal-Purwokerto-Solobalapan.

“Semakin banyak orang memilih kereta api karena kontribusinya terhadap keberlanjutan lingkungan, kenyamanan, dan kemudahan yang ditawarkannya,” ungkap Vice President Public Relations KAI Anne Purba dalam keterangannya, Rabu (15/1/2025).
Anne menambahkan ketepatan waktu menjadi salah satu alasan utama penumpang memilih kereta api. Rata-rata ketepatan waktu kereta api di Indonesia mencapai 99,77% selama 2024.
“Pada 2024, rata-rata OTP keberangkatan kereta api penumpang mencapai 99,77%, meningkat dibandingkan 2023 yang berada di angka 99,54%. OTP kedatangan juga naik dari 93,98% pada 2023 menjadi 96,05% pada 2024,” bebernya.
