Komisi Kompetisi India (CCI) melakukan penyelidikan terhadap kebijakan privasi WhatsApp pada Maret 2021 lalu. Temuannya, WhatsApp membagikan data personal pengguna ke Facebook yang sama-sama merupakan anak usaha Meta.
Hal ini memicu perlawanan di ranah global. Terbaru, CCI memerintahkan WhatsApp agar tak lagi membagikan data personal pengguna ke platform ‘saudara’ di bawah Meta dalam jangka waktu 5 tahun.
Lembaga India tersebut juga mewajibkan WhatsApp membayar denda senilai US$25,4 juta (Rp 402 miliar) atas kasus pelanggaran kompetisi terkait kebijakan privasi pada 2021 tersebut.
“Membagikan data personal pengguna yang dikumpulkan WhatsApp kepada perusahaan Meta lainnya untuk tujuan selain meningkatkan layanan WhatsApp bagi pengguna tak diperbolehkan di India,” kata CCI, dikutip dari Reuters, Selasa (19/11/2024).
Meta tak segera merespons permintaan komentar dari Reuters.
